Spas Offer Stillness and Comfort

Alissa Bayer is the founder of milk + honey, an award-winning collection of premium day spas and salons. Bayer said when you step into a spa, you enter a new place of comfort. Your appointment is meant to be one where you leave stress and worries at home.

“When you are constantly on the go, it’s essential to have the time to be still,” said Bayer.

While Bayer said a day spa is all about the experience, what truly makes a spa day worth it is having the real escape or retreat. You may receive an excellent massage or facial while dressed in a robe and slippers. There is gracious customer service and the environment is relaxing, allowing you to feel comfortable hanging out before and after your appointment.

Every Treatment Is Designed for Your Well-Being

Are you getting a massage? Bayer said some of the benefits of a massage include reducing stress and releasing feel-good hormones. A good massage can even help keep your body limber. If you are getting a facial, Bayer said you will experience benefits like hydration, clear pores and exfoliation.

Whether you are receiving a face and scalp massage, detox steam or another body treatment, every treatment at a spa is designed to help your overall well-being. This is your chance to mentally and physically give yourself the time to take care of yourself.

Spas Allow You To Seek Clarity

Walking into a spa is about more than finding a place where one can relax and leave their troubles behind. Maria Younglove, spa director at Sacred Spa + Wellness, said spa days allow people to seek clarity.

“We all seek to achieve a calm soul, that inward feeling of being refreshed and revived, a confidence boost or even a mini vacation from the hustle and bustle of daily life,” said Younglove.

In a world full of increasingly more stress, Younglove said we all realize the importance of resetting our bodies and minds. A spa treatment provides us with an enjoyable way to detox, release accumulated physical and mental stress from our bodies and provide full body wellness (mental, physical and spiritual) as part of a holistic journey to healing.

Mental Well-Being Is a Spa Benefit

While there are many known cosmetic and physical benefits of spa days, Younglove said many forget that mental well-being is also largely a benefit of a spa day.

“When you spend your day at the spa, you have the ability to refocus and realign your priorities, giving you the energy and motivation to take on the daily challenges by having the ability to pause their constant stressors and the pressure of life,” said Younglove. “Spa days offer an opportunity for reflection.”

Inside a spa, you are able to be in the present moment. Take a moment to breathe, relax and feel ready to take on any obstacles that lie ahead.

Feeling Good Allows You To Do Good

Think about how you feel when you don’t have time to take a relaxing bath, wash your face or even complete a load of laundry. You might not feel comfortable going out in public or taking a work video call over Zoom. In some cases, if you’ve been wearing your pajamas for days on end and working from your bed, you might even feel less inclined to be productive and contribute positive energy in your professional and personal life.

Lori Parrish, owner of award-winning spa BODY, said a visit to the spa is a necessary ingredient of ongoing self-care.

“I believe the investment you make in your own wellness has a direct line to the positivity you emit into the world. We want you to feel good, inside and out, so that you can do good,” said Parrish.

The act of splurging on a spa day, and maintaining other wellness rituals on a regular basis, is especially important following the unprecedented period of isolation and stress amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Parrish said the pursuit of holistic health is a necessary routine to make ourselves whole. When we are whole, we can show up for ourselves, our families and friends, and our obligations.
