‘Selling Sunset’ star Chrishell Stause dishes on how to build an online brand: 'Everything that I’m putting out there is a window into my life'

Chrishell Stause isn’t just everybody’s favorite real estate agent on Selling Sunset — the reality star and LGBTQ icon is helping small-business owners level up their brands.

How to avoid panic buying in an ultra-competitive housing market

Adobe’s Express Your Brand program offers monthly training sessions and custom templates for independent business owners. The series also includes seminars with celebrity speakers like Stause, Top Chef: All-Stars winner Melissa King and interior designer Justina Blakeney.

Stause gave In The Know by Yahoo her best tips on how to build an online brand and dished on her partnership with Adobe.

Be authentic

“For somebody trying to build their brand, I think you want people to know who is behind the brand,” Stause says.

It’s no surprise that the former soap opera actress has 3.6 million Instagram followers.

“The reason people follow me [is] because there is an authentic thing there where I don’t use a team behind me,” she says. “Everything that I’m putting out there is a window into my life. Being able to just kind of show the good, the bad, the ugly and then just like kind of live out loud.”

Be creative

“Depending on what your company is, show us how it’s made one day,” Stause advises. “Or show us behind the scenes. Show us, you know, all those little interesting things.”

Many traditional business practices can feel outdated. No one would have imagined a couple of decades ago that “Realtor” and “celebrity” would be synonymous. Getting creative means updating things for a modern world.

“It was really exciting to work with Adobe and come up with these new templates because, especially coming from Selling Sunset, real estate is different than it used to be,” she says.

Inject fun

Stause is never afraid to show her most authentic self, which includes her sense of humor. The perfect example was her way of coming out — she literally walked out of a closet. She joked about it again the same night she snagged an MTV Best Reality Star award.

“You have to laugh,” she says. “You know, at the end of the day, if someone’s happiness makes someone unhappy, then that’s a problem with them. I love if people want to know more information and they’re open to learning.

She added: “But also if somebody is so closed off that it would actually ruin their day to know something about someone’s sexuality, that’s a strange life to live that someone — that happiness would affect you in a negative way that way.”

Take a break when needed

“I think it is probably healthy for everybody to take a break if they feel that,” Stause says. “If you start to feel like the feedback is going to actually set you back in your day, then you need to take a break.”

Stause believes it’s better not to engage with haters. However, if things are really getting under your skin, it’s best to take a step back from social media.

Find balance

It’s always a good idea to set boundaries when putting yourself out there is part of your job.

“You just have to be really in charge of the energy you put out and the energy that you’re allowing to enter in,” Stause says.
