Update: New Hampshire couple shot to death in Concord woods; investigation underway

A New Hampshire couple was found shot to death in the woods just outside of Concord, New Hampshire late Thursday night, after reports of their disappearance.

The bodies of 67-year-old Stephen Reid and his wife, 66-year-old Djeswende Reid, were found with multiple gunshot wounds in the area of the Broken Ground Trails, just off of Portsmouth Street.

N.H. Attorney General, John Formella says this is now being considered a homicide investigation.

People who live by the hiking trail where a Concord couple was gunned down are on edge.

“Well it’s strange. This is a very peaceful neighborhood and they’re talking about murder,” said Doug Ponusky lives by the trail on Portsmouth Street.

Police had been looking into the disappearance of the Reids, who were last seen at a family member’s home on Easter Sunday, according to Concord Police. They had not been heard from since Monday.

A preliminary investigation shows the Reids left their home in the Alton Woods apartment complex just before 2:30 p.m. on that day, April 18, and went for a walk nearby. Their walk led them to the Broken Grounds Trails.

The Reids were reported missing by a family member on Wednesday when Stephen did not arrive for a planned event, police said in a statement. Both of their vehicles were parked in their usual places.

“It just seems random that’s the scariest part. You got some nut on the loose you know,” said Ron Biavaschi whose sister lives close to where the Reids lived in the Alton Woods Apartment complex in Concord.

“It seems vicious you know like there was multiple gunshots and they don’t seem like the type that well, they’re elderly,” said Biavaschi.

According to police, there is no known history of domestic violence for either person and neither are believed to own firearms.
