Police: 15-year-old accused of playing with stolen gun charged in killing of 14-year-old

A 15-year-old boy accused of playing with a stolen gun has been charged in the killing of a 14-year-old, according to the Reading Police Department.

The shooting happened on Jan. 17 at a home in the 400 block of Olden Avenue.

Police said officers went to the home following a call that a 14-year-old was suffering from a gunshot wound.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel performed life-saving measures on the unidentified teenager. The 14-year-old was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

After a six-month-long investigation, officials said an unnamed 15-year-old has been identified as the shooter.

Investigators said the 15-year-old brought a gun stolen from a home in Colerain Township to the 14-year-old's home on Jan. 17.

According to police, the 15-year-old was "recklessly" playing with the gun at the time of the shooting.

On Thursday, the 15-year-old was charged with reckless homicide.
