Detectives believe a woman and her son died in a murder-suicide early Thursday, Desert Hot Springs police said.
Someone called 911 after hearing gunshots around 4:30 a.m., and officers found two people with gunshot wounds in a duplex on the 66-200 block of 6th Street, police said. Detectives aren't looking for any suspects.
The man's and woman's identities are not being released until their families have been notified of their deaths. The man was around 35 years old and the woman was around 62 years old, according to Deputy Chief Steven Shaw.
Police believe they were mother and son, Shaw said. He said investigators believe they know who fired the gun, but are not releasing that information yet.
Shaw said police interviewed the person who reported the gunshots about what they heard and saw, but he was not a suspect. Shaw would not say what that person's relationship was to the deceased.
This is the second known suspected murder-suicide in the Coachella Valley this month. Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department believe a couple, both 87, died in a murder-suicide in Palm Desert last week.
