Madonna says infamous faux British accent was 'Guy Ritchie's fault'

Madonna has blamed her English ex-husband Guy Ritchie for the unusual faux British accent she was heard speaking with around the time they were married.

The singer reflected on her infamous articulation as she appeared on the London Palladium stage on Wednesday night as she resumed her Madame X Tour following multiple cancellations.

The BBC reports that the 61-year-old donned a British accent while speaking to the crowds before saying: "I didn't know what anyone was talking about until I heard old interviews of myself. And then I was horrified and flabbergasted. Why did you let me do that to myself?”

"It's all Guy Ritchie's fault,” she added.

The couple, who owned a Wiltshire estate together as well as properties in London, were married between 2000 and 2008.

They share one biological son together, Rocco, in addition to son David Banda, whom they adopted from Malawi in 2006.

Since splitting with Ritchie, Madonna has gone on to adopt three more children from Malawi, daughter Mercy in 2009 and twin sisters Estere and Stella in 2017.

The Ray of Light singer’s eldest child, Lourdes, was born to her and fitness trainer Carlos Leon in 1996.

After the break-up of her marriage to Ritchie, Madonna returned to the US to base herself in New York. She currently resides in Lisbon, Portugal having moved in 2017 in order to support her son David's footballing ambitions.

She's currently back on her Madame X tour which has been blighted by cancellations in Portugal and the UK due to injury.
