Fox's Joe Buck admits to drinking tequila with Troy Aikman in broadcast booth

Candid Joe Buck is the best Joe Buck.

The Fox Sports announcer tends to be a polarizing figure in the booth. But it's hard not to get on board with story time with Joe when he's telling on himself.

His latest admission arrived via a podcast appearance with Colin Cowherd in which he admits that he and Fox NFL broadcast partner Troy Aikman have enjoyed the occasional tequila cocktail while calling games.

'It's a good mental trigger to just chill'

"We have had that glass of bourbon in the booth," Buck told Cowherd during a conversation about building chemistry with Aikman. "Although it’s not bourbon, it’s tequila, splash of Grand Marnier and grapefruit juice.

“I went through a couple years where in the first inning of every postseason baseball game, I had the runner go get the biggest beer that the stadium sold. And I had it sitting there, and I would sip it from time to time to remind myself to relax and have fun. I’m just doing a game.”

Hmmmm ...

Buck then went on to credit the transition from beer to tequila to Aikman's presence in the booth.

“And I brought that over to football," Buck continued. "But because Troy is a man of finer tastes, beer somehow became tequila, Grand Marnier and grapefruit juice.

"We haven’t done it in a long time now, but it was good for a stretch, and I feel like it’s a good mental trigger to just chill and remind yourself that you’re not refueling a F-16 in mid-flight. You’re doing a sporting event, and if you treat it like anything other than that you’re doing yourself a disservice.”

About that time Joe Buck ate too many pot brownies

Buck's detractors knock the play-by-play man as stodgy and unrelatable in the booth. There are few better ways to relate to the everyman fan than acknowledging enjoying a beverage with his afternoon football. Will Buck's story win over any critics?

This isn't even Buck's most interesting admission concerning mind-altering substances. That honor goes to a 2017 appearance on "The Dan Le Batard with Stugotz" show in which Buck recounts a tale of a mid-divorce Cabo trip that involved eating more than one pot brownie after getting drunk on tequila at the driving range. All while dealing with the consequences of a botched hair transplant.

In short, it didn't end well for Buck. If you haven't heard, it's worth a listen.
