Georgian group says it will take controversial media law to the constitutional court
A non-governmental organization in Georgia said Thursday it is preparing a lawsuit in the country's constitutional court to challenge a law that critics say will stifle news media and independent organizations. The law will require media and non-governmental organizations that receive more than 20% of their funding from abroad to register as representing the interests of foreign powers. Massive demonstrations have filled the streets of the Georgian capital Tbilisi for weeks to protest the measure, whose foes call it “the Russian law” because of similar laws in Russia pushed by the Kremlin.

Dengue cases in Americas surpass last year's record high, WHO says
The UN agency said the number of cases in the Americas exceeded 7 million by the end of April, already surpassing the annual high of 4.6 million in 2023. In comparison, over 7.6 million dengue cases and about 3,000 deaths were reported globally during the same period. Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay have been hit the hardest by dengue among 46 countries in North and South America.

US pending home sales suffer largest drop in three years
The NAR said its pending home sales index fell 7.7% in April to 72.3 from an upwardly revised 78.3 reading in March. The drop was the largest since February 2021 and the index level was the lowest since the record-low reading of 71.8 in April of 2020. The index is meant to be predictive of completed home sales transactions one to two months later.

OpenAI offers nonprofits discounts on corporate ChatGPT product
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - - OpenAI will offer discounts on corporate ChatGPT subscriptions to nonprofit organizations, the Microsoft-backed firm said on Thursday, as it seeks to grow sales of its artificial intelligence product to enterprises. Under the program, large nonprofits will be able to get 50% off the enterprise-grade version of ChatGPT. Smaller nonprofits using ChatGPT Team will pay $20 per month per user, instead of $25 or $30.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - - An unidentified hacking group launched a massive cyberattack on a telecommunications company in the U.S. heartland late last year that disabled hundreds of thousands of internet routers, according to research published Thursday. Security analysts with Lumen Technologies' Black Lotus Labs discovered the attack in recent months and reported on it in a blog post. The October incident, which was not disclosed at the time, took more than 600,000 internet routers offline.

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and 22 other Democratic Senators on Thursday asked the Attorney General to investigate allegations of collusion and price fixing between the oil industry and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
