John Travolta remembers his iconic opening sequence in ‘Saturday Night Fever’

John Travolta takes fans on a trip down memory lane in Yahoo Entertainment’s “Role Recall.” The actor, who began his career on TV, most memorably in “Welcome Back, Kotter” reveals his mom didn’t love the “Vinny Barbarino” character. “She was saving my reputation because she didn’t think I would ever become famous on a New York accent playing a dumb New York character,” Travolta says. As for that iconic opening in “Saturday Night Fever,” Travolta says he had input on the famous Bee Gees song. “Switching ‘Stayin' Alive’ to the front of the movie was the best thing that could have been done.” Travolta also recalls his friendship with Bruce Willis. The two were in the 1989 film “Look Who’s Talking.” Willis was the voice of baby Mickey. The pair joined forces again in 1994 for “Pulp Fiction” — and Yahoo Entertainment noticed an interesting correlation between the actors. “No one really talks about that baby killed me!” Travolta jokes.
