The cast of ‘Richard Jewell’ hopes this movie will clear his name

Paul Walter Hauser plays Richard Jewell, a security guard who was falsely accused of bombing the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. Kathy Bates plays his mom, Bobi Jewell. The actors told Yahoo Entertainment that the movie isn’t about placing blame but that they hope to clear Jewell’s name in the public mind. “It's not an indictment of the FBI or the media,” Bates said. “They just got it wrong.” Hauser went on to say: “We're not making a political statement. We're making a character-driven film, and the outcome is writing the wrong for Richard.” The actors agree that director Clint Eastwood made this movie because he felt it was a real American tragedy. “More than anything, all of us felt a tremendous responsibility,” Bates said.
