Comic-Con 2022: Everything we learned about Marvel’s next steps

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is ready to explode.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige unveiled Phase 5 of the MCU at Comic-Con Saturday, including a “Hawkeye” spinoff, a political thriller, a “Daredevil” reboot and Anthony Mackie’s Captain America movie, plus a sneak peek at Phase 6.

Here’s everything we learned from Hall H:

“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” Aug. 17

Tatiana Maslany stars as lawyer Jennifer Walters, Bruce Banner’s cousin, in the Disney+ series. “She-Hulk” seems far more light-hearted than most of the Marvel series so far, with a little “Fleabag”-style fourth wall-breaking just for kicks.

“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Nov. 11

The long-awaited “Black Panther” sequel will hit theaters in November, and based on the first trailer, Chadwick Boseman’s presence will loom large. “Wakanda Forever” will also introduce Namor, the mutant son of a human sea captain and a princess of Atlantis, played by Tenoch Huerta. Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett and Winston Duke are all set to return and Dominique Thorne debuts as Riri Williams, a genius inventor and heir apparent to Tony Stark who becomes Ironheart.

“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” Feb. 17, 2023

Jonathan Majors comes to the Quantum Realm as Kang the Conqueror, whose path crosses with Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), his daughter Cassie (Kathryn Newton), Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer).

“Secret Invasion,” spring 2023

Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is back in spy mode, along with sidekicks Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) and James “Rhodey” Rhodes (Don Cheadle) and his Skrull partner, Talos (Ben Mendelsohn). “Secret Invasion” is still being kept very, well, secret, but we do know the Skrulls are coming and their presence is less than wanted. Also Emilia Clarke has a gun.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” May 5, 2023

James Gunn will wrap his “Guardians” trilogy with the help of Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, Will Poulter and Maria Bakalova, who will play Cosmo the dog. The cast teased the backstory of how Rocket became a walking, talking raccoon, plus just how Peter Quill (Pratt) is handling — or not handling — the death of Gamora in “Infinity War.” Chukwudi Iwuji joins the crew as the High Evolutionary.

“Echo,” summer 2023

The Hawkeye spinoff only got a vague release date and what we already know about Maya Lopez (Aquaya Cox) going home to reconnect with her Native American roots. Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Cody Lightning, Graham Greene, Zahn McClarnon, Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox also star.

“Loki” Season 2, summer 2023

Same story here, just a release window for the second season of Tom Hiddleston’s god of mischief.

“Blade,” Nov. 3, 2023

There’s been little mention of “Blade” since Marvel announced the vampiric reboot in 2019, but Feige confirmed again that Mahershala Ali really is coming back.

“Ironheart,” fall 2023

The aforementioned Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) gets her own spinoff series next fall.

“Agatha: Coven of Chaos,” winter 2023/2024

Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness delighted her way into a spinoff, originally called “House of Harkness,” after singing and stealing through “WandaVision.”

“Daredevil: Born Again,” spring 2024

Netflix’s “Daredevil” didn’t go over too well, but Marvel is giving Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) another chance after a cameo in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and planned appearances in “Echo” and “She-Hulk.” Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) will tag along for the ride in the 18-episode first season.

“Captain America: New World Order,” May 3, 2024

Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) is finally getting his own movie — and his own gig as Captain America. No details yet, but “New World Order” sure sounds messy.

“Thunderbolts,” July 25, 2024

Welcome to the MCU’s version of “Suicide Squad,” a ragtag group of knockoff Avengers who step up in their place. Feige was quiet on casting, but Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine is rumored to be the bandleader after her introduction in “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.”

“Fantastic Four,” Nov. 8, 2024

Marking the beginning of Phase Six, and just three days after the 2024 presidential election, escape your real family with maybe the MCU’s most famous family. No, this isn’t a sequel to the 2005 movie, which starred Ioan Gruffudd as Mister Fantastic, Jessica Alba as Invisible Woman, Michael Chiklis as the Thing and Chris Evans as Human Torch, or even its ill-received follow-up, but a new introduction entirely.

“Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” May 2, 2025

Based on the title, it seems likely that Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror is going to get to show off after his “Ant-Man” role and a quick appearance in “Loki.”

“Avengers: Secret Wars,” Nov. 7, 2025

Phase Six of the MCU, called “the Multiverse Saga,” will last just a year, wrapping with “Secret Wars.” The name comes from Marvel’s 1984-85 crossover that saw a clash between the main Marvel universe (Earth-616) and the Ultimate Marvel universe, eventually destroying both, a storyline repeated in 2015. Could this actually be the end? Almost certainly not.
