Bronx man answers knock at front door of his home, is fatally shot

A Bronx man was shot dead after he answered a knock at his front door, according to police and sources.

The 43-year-old victim opened the door just before 6 p.m. at his two-story brick home on Irwin Ave. near W. 234th St. in Kingsbridge.

A gunman standing outside the doorway shot him in the chest and walked away as the victim’s family sat in the next room, police and sources said.

Cops were looking to speak with a family member, a police source said.

“He was a good and generous man,” said George Rodriguez, 42, a friend of the victim. “He owned commercial and residential properties and he’d lease them out. They are a very nice family.”

Rodriguez said the victim has two daughters — one who is 27 and herself has a daughter, and a two-year-old daughter.

“It’s heartbreaking. We can’t believe this happened,” he said.

Medics rushed him to Harlem Hospital where he died.

There have been no arrests.
