Actually, most of us aren't thinking about San Diego while watching 'Top Gun'

We don't talk about San Diego

Joe Matthews’ recent column “San Diego is Too Smart for ‘Top Gun’” was an amusing diatribe that unnecessarily inflates the importance of this fine Southern California city.

I watched this entertaining sequel and the movies’ depiction of the city of San Diego was the last thing on my mind. Correction: I really did not think of San Diego at all during my viewing of this movie.

Joe would worry a lot less about what other people think of San Diego if only he realized how little they did.

What Biden's doing on inflation

I would like to see more media coverage of the impact of the following actions President Joe Biden has taken (or will) to address inflation.

  1. How will lowering the national deficit by $1.7 trillion in 2022 impact inflation?

  2. What has been the impact of getting more long-haul truckers into training programs to ease the supply chain problem?

  3. What has been (or will be) the effect of expanding our nation’s seaport capacity and modernization (via the bipartisan infrastructure bill)?

  4. How has tripling the amount of liquefied natural gas the U.S. exports to Europe (compared to last year) helped ease pricing pressure on energy in light of Russia’s war on Ukraine?

  5. How will ending many of Trump’s tariffs (which are taxes on consumers) impact inflation? Biden is evaluating this action, and former treasury secretary Larry Summers strongly recommends that tariffs be removed in a targeted manner.

  6. Biden has asked Congress to do something about the nine foreign shipping companies (that have a monopoly on shipments from Asia to the U.S.) that have raised their shipping fees by as much as 1,000%. What could Congress do, and how much would that reduce inflationary pressures?
