The 2022 Andover tornado damaged over 1,000 buildings in a 12.75 mile path. Here's what we know.

Friday's EF-3 tornado that struck the Wichita suburb of Andover stayed on the ground for 21 minutes, carving a path of destruction 12.75 miles long, according to the Wichita office of the National Weather Service.

The tornado had a maximum width of 440 yards and generated estimated wind speeds of up to 165 mph, that office said on its website.

There were no fatalities, while three people suffered injuries directly related to the tornado, the site said.

It indicated two of people were injured in Sedgwick County and one in Butler County.

Andover fire chief Chad Russell said 1,074 buildings were damaged, with at least 300 to 400 destroyed.

The United Way of the Plains set up a disaster assistance center, which will provide residents through Sunday with snacks, water and and other supplies at the Andover Community Center.

How to help Andover tornado victims

Donating money is the best way to help victims of the tornado, according to the United Way of the Plains.

That organization said monetary donations to aid those victims may be made on its website at unitedwayplains.org/disaster-relief-fund.

Checks may be sent to the United Way of the Plains at 245 N. Water St., Wichita, KS 67202. They should be payable to United Way of the Plains, with "disaster response Fund" in the memo.
