Zayn Malik seems to have taken notes from girlfriend Gigi Hadid and landed his own design gig.
The "Like I Would" singer is partnering with Versus Versace to design a capsule collection for the Italian fashion house. The Zayn x Versus line of menswear and womenswear, which he'll create in "close collaboration with Donatella Versace," according to a release, will drop May 2017 in Versus stores worldwide and on versusversace.com. A percentage of the net proceeds from the range will be donated to a charity that has yet to be disclosed.
In addition to designing, Malik will star in upcoming Versus campaigns for the spring 2017 collection, first debuting next February, and then again later in the year.
"I think Versus has always been a very cool brand. It's a great brand for me and for people in my generation," said Malik, who attended the luxury label's show during London Fashion Week with Hadid. "I've always wanted to design clothes, and there's no brand I'd rather design for than Versus. The bonus is that I get to collaborate with Donatella, whom I love and admire."
The feeling is mutual for Donatella. "When we first met, he told me how much he loves fashion. I though it would be fantastic to collaborate on a new Versus collection together," she said. "And given Zayn's huge fan base around the world, I expect there will be a lot of excitement about what we create together," Indeed, Malik's 15.3 million Instagram followers and 20.2 million Twitter followers are sure to eat this up.
The most recent Versus Versace collection was presented by Donatella, who returned to the helm after Anthony Vaccarello departed in April to take charge at YSL. Designers J.W. Anderson and Christopher Kane, as well as recording artist M.I.A. have all previously designed for Versus.
The Zayn x Versus collection will be presented to the media and buyers next spring, though details have yet to be revealed. Perhaps Malik will take a page out of the Tommy x Gigi carnival playbook and set up a fashion spectacle too.
