Hear Fred Armisen in Audible's 'Portlandia Travelogue: The Brussels to Antwerp Express'

Before Portlandia returns to IFC on Jan. 21, it would be helpful to have a native provide a guide to the sketch comedy series’ offbeat terrain. Enter Audible, the spoken word audio provider that already sponsors all of your favorite podcasts. On Jan. 7, Audible will release Portlandia Travelogue: The Brussels to Antwerp Express, a 15-minute aural companion to Portlandia’s sixth season. Co-creator and co-star Fred Armisen provides the in-character audio as freakout-prone bookstore owner, Candace, who recounts a predictably problem-plagued trip to Europe. This clip, premiering exclusively on Yahoo TV, gives those unfamiliar with Candace a taste of her unique vocal stylings. “I’m writhing as I record this. Can you feel me writhing?” she asks. Given her temperament, we wouldn’t dare say no.

Meanwhile, in this second clip, Armisen-as-Candace describes an encounter with a Belgian customs agent that, in her overactive imagination, takes a turn into Fifty Shades of Grey territory. “I imagined punching through the glass and touching his face,” she remarks, dreamily. Sounds like the next Fifty Shades novel, Grey, has found its new reader.

Portlandia premieres Jan. 21 at 10 p.m. on IFC.
