New ‘X-Files’ Writers Room Is 100 Percent Male So Far

Chris Carter has assembled a new writers’ room for the next season of “The X-Files,” TheWrap has confirmed.

In addition to bringing back series veterans Darin Morgan, Glen Morgan, and James Wong, Carter has also added former series assistants Gabe Rotter, Benjamin Van Allen and Brad Follmer to Season 11.

The internet quickly noticed that Carter had once again assembled an all-male group of writers to tell the next installment in the story of supernatural-chasing FBI agents Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson).

This, of course, has led to all sorts of backlash, including calls for fans to submit their fantasy all-female writers’ rooms.

Suggestions include “Wynona Earp” showrunner Emily Andras, who got into the fun, saying, “I don’t want to oversell it but this is obviously going to be the greatest television show that’s ever aired.”

Andras also suggested that Mulder would be recast with Gal Gadot, prompting others to chime in with new casting choices such as Gabourey Sidibe, Aubrey Plaza, and Constance Wu as the Lone Gunmen and Viola Davis as The Cigarette-Smoking Woman.

Filming begins this summer and the new episodes will air during the 2017-18 season.

The original show premiered in 1993 and for nine seasons, followed by two feature films and a spinoff “Lone Gunmen” series.

Duchovny and Anderson returned to their roles in Fox’s 2016 revival limited series — which ran for six episodes — to mixed reviews from critics and fans.

The 2016 revival writers’ room did have two credited female writers, Margaret Fearon and Anne Simon, who is a longtime science adviser on the show.
