Whoopi Goldberg Talks Bill Cosby Arrest on ‘The View’

Bill Cosby was charged with sexual assault in Montgomery County, Pa., on December 30. It is the first legal ramification from the allegations that Cosby drugged and raped over 50 women since 1965. The statute of limitations was set to expire this month, leading to the arrest. The women of The View tackled this very serious issue. “I want everybody to be able to ask questions, because I’ve heard a lot, but we have not heard anything from his side,” commented Whoopi, who at one time defended the comedian when the allegations first came to light.

Special guest Sunny Hostin, a legal analyst for CNN, broke down the case a bit more. She specifically addressed a deposition request involving Cosby’s wife, Camille. Under a normal legal case, Camille would be protected by marital privilege, but this case includes a surprising caveat. Because Camille was also his business manager, the information regarding his payment records may outweigh the marital privilege for the case. Hostin also explained that using the concept of modus operandi, all of Cosby’s prior accusers could feasibly testify.

Raven-Symoné, who’s first-ever television appearance was on The Cosby Show, was oddly silent throughout the discussion, while Goldberg echoed the larger issue at hand by adding, “This isn’t going anywhere, this is not going anywhere.”
