'Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later' Series Ordered by Netflix

Time to report back to Camp Firewood, Netflix subscribers.

The streaming giant announced Wednesday that it has ordered eight episodes of new original series Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later.

The half-hour comedy makes good on a promise from the end of the original 2001 Wet Hot American Summer film, when the camp counselors vow to get back together a decade after summer camp ended. That scene included Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Michael Showalter, Michael Ian Black, A.D. Miles and Elizabeth Banks, among others.

Each of them — and many more — returned for last summer’s Netflix prequel series, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, but casting for this new project remains under wraps for now.

It’ll be about 16 real years when Ten Years Later eventually premieres in 2017, which is far less a stretch than what the actors were asked to pull off for “First Day of Camp.” Of course, the turn-back-the-clock streaming show didn’t hide from its obvious tongue-in-cheek aging aspect.

Ten Years Later will be written by franchise creators Showalter and David Wain, and Wain will direct again. Executive producers for Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later include Showalter, Wain, Peter Principato, Jonathan Stern and Howard Bernstein.
