'Wayward Pines': Meet Melissa Leo's Scary Nurse and Carla Gugino's Biggest Fan

Fox’s Wayward Pines doesn’t premiere until May 14, but now through April 30, the network is offering a full sneak peek at the first episode, directed by M. Night Shyamalan, on various platforms (including Fox.com, Fox On Demand, and Hulu). Watch it here.

The 10-episode thriller centers on a Secret Service agent (Matt Dillion’s Ethan Burke), who’s sent to the small town of Wayward Pines to find two missing federal agents — one of whom (Carla Gugino’s Kate Hewson Ballinger) had been his partner and lover in the past.

Ethan knows Kate is hiding something, and no one seems more thrilled about Gugino’s performance than co-star Juliette Lewis (Beverly). “She is so exquisite,” Lewis says in the character profile above, “because she has to play this person who doesn’t reveal anything, but she infuses that with these subtle desperate emotions. So you have to be a really finely-skilled actor to do what she’s doing. It’s exciting to watch.” Lewis’s enthusiasm seems so genuine, if you hadn’t been convinced to give the show a chance before, she may have just closed the deal.

Also helping, our second exclusive featurette, a character profile of Melissa Leo’s terrifying Nurse Pam. Again, Lewis gives a solid endorsement: “Anything Melissa does is riveting.” It would seem Nurse Pam doesn’t want Burke to figure out what’s wrong with Wayward Pines, a place where she feels quite at home.

Wayward Pines premieres May 14 at 9 p.m. on Fox.
