Watch: MTV Shares ‘Shannara Chronicles’ Trailer at NYCC

MTV has dropped a new trailer for upcoming fantasy TV series “The Shannara Chronicles,” which will debut on January 5, 2016.

The clip premiered at the “Shannara” panel at New York Comic Con Saturday afternoon to much fan excitement. The series already carries a devoted fan base culled from devotees of the best-selling book series on which the series is based. Written by Terry Brooks, the “Shannara” books follow Elvin princess Amberle, human Eretria and elf-human hybrid Wil on their quest to save the world from an evil demon. The action is set hundreds of years after this society has destroyed itself through nuclear holocaust.

Poppy Drayton, Ivana Baquero and Austin Butler star alongside Dexter” alum James Remar, Brooke Williams, Daniel MacPherson and Marcus Vanco.

The two-minute clip features sweeping post-apocalyptic landscapes, intense weaponry and ominous warnings about a sacred tree that keeps the demons away.

“Each leaf represents a single demon. Once they begin to fall, the creatures of darkness will be released one by one,” intones John Rhys-Davies as King Eventine.

Al Gough and Miles Millar serve as executive producers and showrunners. Jon Favreau, Jonathan Liebesman, Brooks, Dan Farah and Gene Stein are exec producers, with Liebesman directing the first two episodes. MTV is producing with Sonar Entertainment.

The first trailer for the series debuted during MTV’s Video Music Awards in August.
