Watch a Sneak Peek from Mariah Carey's Hallmark Christmas Movie

The wait is almost over. On Saturday, we get to see what a Hallmark Channel holiday movie directed by and co-starring Mariah Carey looks like.

Actually, we can show you now, with these three clips from A Christmas Melody. In the one above, Lacey Chabert’s Kristin — a single mother/fashion designer who moves her young daughter (10-year-old Broadway sensation Fina Strazza) from Los Angeles back to her small hometown in Ohio — runs into Carey’s mean-girl PTA president Melissa. Despite the actresses’ 12-year age difference, the characters apparently went to school together.

We’re immediately Team Kristin because even the school’s good-guy music teacher, Danny (Brennan Elliot) — who goes against Melissa’s wishes and lets Kristin’s daughter audition for the annual Snowflake Pageant — doesn’t like Melissa enough to remember her full name. Carey says the character’s married name is Atkinson while Danny seconds Kristin’s “Atkins” in the clip below.

Kathy Najimy plays Kristin’s aunt and is also not a fan of Melissa’s.

The good news is the movie builds to Kristin’s daughter performing a song in that Snowflake Pageant (which Kristin ends up designing the costumes for, naturally), and it’s excellent.

The song, a new version of Carey’s “Oh Santa” that Carey produced and arranged, leads right into Mariah Carey’s Merriest Christmas, a one-hour special starting at 10 p.m., which features holiday songs performed by Carey (who does not sing in the movie itself). Look for her to duet with Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, plus Kelsey Grammer gives “an unforgettable reading” of “The Night Before Christmas” and Mike & Molly’s Billy Gardell appears as Santa Claus.

A Christmas Melody premieres Dec. 19 at 8 p.m. on Hallmark Channel.
