“Justified” star Walton Goggins has teamed with writer Adam Fierro to develop a drama project for Fox and Fox Television Studios about the world of Mexican drug cartels.

“Gringo” revolves around an American cop who moves south of the border with his Mexican wife and gets caught up in the cartel wars. Fox has given the project a script order.

Goggins (pictured) and Fierro, an alum of “The Shield” and “The Walking Dead,” co-wrote the story, with Fierro penning the teleplay. The pair will serve as exec producers. Goggins’ manager, Darris Hatch, is on board as co-exec producer. It’s unclear whether Goggins is eying “Gringo” as a starring vehicle.

At present Goggins co-stars with Timothy Olyphant on the FX/Sony Pictures TV drama “Justified,” where he has impressed in the role of rural crime kingpin Boyd Crowder. Like Fierro, Goggins logged several seasons on FX’s “The Shield” prior to “Justified.” His recent film work has included supporting roles in “Django Unchained,” “Lincoln” and “Cowboys and Indians.”

Fierro’s past credits include Showtime’s “Dexter,” TNT’s “Hawthorne” and Fox’s “24.”

Goggins is repped by ICM Partners and Darris Hatch Management.  Fierro is with ICM Partners and attorney David Fox.
