‘Walking Dead’ Star Jeffrey Dean Morgan Caught His Son Playing Negan With the Family Chickens

The Walking Dead‘s Negan himself co-hosted Live with Kelly on Wednesday, and it turns out that the actor who plays him, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, is a real-life gentleman farmer. He and his wife, actress Hilarie Burton, own a farm in upstate New York where they raise a multitude of animals, including cattle, alpaca, chickens, and of course cats and dogs. But it’s the relationship of their son Gus with the chickens that’s interesting. Morgan said he recently saw the 6-year-old crawl out of the chicken coop wearing all black and a red scarf, carrying a baseball bat. He said he was playing Negan with the hens.

Morgan said that his son will sometimes just go into the chicken coop and talk to the chickens for hours, but it seems that this time, he was re-enacting the famous scene with which Season 6 of The Walking Dead ended and Season 7 began. As a quick refresher (completely devoid of details, of course), it’s the scene in which Negan lines up several people, goes “Eeny, meeny, miney, mo,” and then bludgeons two of them to death with a baseball bat.

“He was like, ‘Yeah. I was doing ‘Eeny, meeny, miney, mo’ to the hens.’ And so I go running down. I’m thinking I’m going to see chickens splattered all over the coop. They were all fine,” Morgan recalled, laughing about the incident.
