Vladimir Putin Subject of Oliver Stone's New Showtime Doc — Watch Trailer

Oliver Stone has gone from recreating history to making it.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin at length and created The Putin Interviews, a four-part documentary that will air on Showtime in June, the network announced Monday.

Per the official release, the Platoon director had wide-reaching access to the Russian leader’s personal and professional life, interviewing him more than 12 times over the course of two years. Their most recent conversation took place in February.

The documentary’s topics of conversation include U.S. Presidents Trump, Obama, Bush and Clinton, American-Russian relations and Russia’s involvement in Syria and Ukraine.

Oh, and one other thing…

“Why did Russia hack the election?,” Stone asks in a teaser trailer Showtime released Monday. (The video is at the top of the page, and it’s worth a watch to see Putin’s response.)

“If Vladimir Putin is indeed the great enemy of the United States, then at least we should try to understand him,” Stone said via statement.

The Putin Interviews premieres on Monday, June 12, at 9/8c and continues for three more consecutive nights.
