USA Network Orders Drama Pilot ‘Damnation’

USA Network has ordered a pilot for the 1930-set drama “Damnation,” created by “Longmire” alum Tony Tost.

The project hails from Universal Cable Productions. Tost and James Mangold are exec producing with Entertainment 360’s Guymon Casady and Daniel Rapport.

“Damnation” revolves around a man masquerading as a small-town preacher in Iowa who aims to launch an insurrection against the status quo. He runs up against an industrialist tycoon with whom he shares a bloody history.

The project marks the first pilot greenlight to come out of the reorganized scripted development team for NBCUniversal’s entertainment cablers. In February, USA and Syfy alum Bill McGoldrick was named exec VP and head of the division’s content group, which will field scripted development for USA, Syfy, Bravo and E!

“Tony’s script captures a period of American History with many of the same conflicts that we are still facing today,” said McGoldrick. “We are thrilled to collaborate with Universal Cable Productions, James Mangold and Entertainment 360 on this powerful and ambitious historical drama.”
