This Is Us: A Westworld Star Recalls 'Joyful' Experience Shooting Fall Finale

Jimmi Simpson isn’t in This Is Us‘ fall finale for long. Nevertheless, you’ll probably remember his scene.

The Westworld actor shares a brief but powerful exchange with series star Sterling K. Brown in the hour, which airs Tuesday at 9/8c on NBC. Though for fear of spoilers he couldn’t say much about the one-off role during a recent call, Simpson told TVLine that signing up for the gig was a no-brainer.

“Sterling Brown and I were non-Equity actors trying to get our Equity cards together in 1999 in Williamstown Theatre Festival, and we hit it off instantly,” Simpson recalled. “This man was the first actor I knew who… I saw perform in front of me, and then all of a sudden, I was like, ‘But where did my friend go?'” He laughed. “Like, there’s a completely different being here!”

All Simpson could divulge about his This Is Us character is that plays a Wall Street trader, and that the chance to work with Brown wasn’t one he was going to pass up. “I said, ‘I’m in.’ I have wanted to work with my friend, Sterling, for the last 18 years,” he said. “It was such a joyful day.”

But what of Simpson’s other job, playing Westworld‘s William, aka Baby Man in Black? After Sunday’s Season 1 finale, the actor told Vanity Fair‘s Joanna Robinson that he would not return to the HBO sci-fi drama for Season 2.
