Unusual Choices Made on ‘The Voice’

The Voice continued its auditions round Monday but was an hour shorter than usual to make room for the presidential debate. During the abbreviated show, contestants and coaches made unusual choices.

There was Elia, who sang in Spanish, which she did not believe had been done before. The judges liked her bold choice and she soon found herself paired up with coach Adam Levine.

Lane Mack is a zydeco country artist whose uncle is Grammy-nominated zydeco musician Roddie Romero. Mack’s performance garnered only one chair to turn, and we were surprised to see that it belonged to 23-year-old popstar Miley Cyrus.

The last audition of the night was Josh, a genuine cowboy from West Texas. Josh’s soulful and haunting voice drew the attention of many judges, particularly Blake Shelton. And while it would make sense for a guy who lives in the country to choose another country artist for a coach, Josh surprised us by choosing Alicia Keys. Keys jumped up and down with excitement as Josh was added to her eclectic collection of contestants.

The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m./7:00 CT on NBC.
