‘Twin Peaks’ Catch-Up Guide: 5 Things to Remember Before the New Season

It’s been over two decades since anyone has set foot in the small, strange town of Twin Peaks, Washington, the bucolic Pacific Northwest setting for David Lynch’s short-lived, but intensely loved eponymous TV series, and its 1992 feature film prequel, Fire Walk With Me. But we always suspected we’d be invited back; after all, in the 1991 series finale, the spirit of Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee) — the high school beauty queen whose brutal murder set the series in motion — promised, “I’ll see you again in 25 years.” And, true to her word, Laura, along with many of her fellow townspeople, is back in Showtime’s revival of Twin Peaks, which premieres Sunday, May 21 at 9 p.m.

With such a long time gap between visits, it’s understandable if you’ve forgotten some of what happened the last time we dropped in on our Twin Peaks friends and neighbors. With that in mind, Yahoo TV has prepared a catch-up guide of five big plot points from the original run that should stir the memories of returning visitors and get newcomers up to speed. So grab a slice of cherry pie and pour yourself a damn fine cup of coffee — here’s what you need to know before Twin Peaks returns.

Twin Peaks premieres Sunday, May 21 at 9 p.m. on Showtime.
