TV News Roundup: National Geographic Channel Announces Premiere For ‘Mars’

In today’s TV news roundup, National Geographic Channel has set a premiere date for Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s miniseries “Mars,” plus the syndicated entrepreneurial show “Hatches” has made casting changes for Season 2.

CASTING

Entrepreneurial series “Hatched” has set new judges and hosts for its second season, Variety has learned. The nationally syndicated show has cast Courtney and Carter Reum of investment and brand development company M13 to lead the panel. Other names joining Season 2 are Lance Bass, Dara Trujillo of the Home Shopping Network, plus investors Victor Green and Steve Seigel. “Hatched” Season 2 premieres Sept. 17.

National Geographic Channel has set a premiere date for “Mars” — Monday, Nov. 14 at 9 p.m. The six-part series from Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, which is set both in present day and the future, combines scripted drama and visual effects with documentary sequences to drive forward a cohesive story of mankind’s quest to colonize the Red Planet. “Mars” stars Ben Cotton, Jihae, Alberto Ammann, Clementine Poidatz, Sammi Rotibi and Anamaria Marinca.

EXECUTIVES

E! Entertainment announced that Meeri Park Cunniff has been promoted to senior vice president of program strategy and acquisitions for the company. Cunniff, who joined E! in 2013, will serve as the network’s senior executive overseeing linear and cross-platform scheduling, long-term strategic planning, and program acquisitions. She will continue to report to Adam Stotsky.
