TV Land Renews 'Younger' for Season 2

TV Land’s single-camera comedy push is off to a good start.
The Viacom-owned cable network has renewed its Darren Star comedy Younger for a second season of 12 episodes, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The comedy stars Sutton Foster and represents TV Land’s first single-comedy as the cabler pushes into the format with younger-skewing series including Jim Gaffigan vehicle The Gaffigan Show, Teachers and Impastor.

The decision to pick up Younger — about a recently divorced 40-year-old mother (Foster) who gets a makeover in a bid to re-enter the workforce and appear as a 20-something — comes as TV Land under former network president Larry W. Jones was looking to reinvent the cabler that’s been home to syndicated comedies and multicam comedies including Hot in Cleveland, The Exes and The Soul Man.
Younger opened to solid reviews, with THR’s Tim Goodman calling the series a “more sophisticated comedy” and praising Foster’s performance.
“Younger is the first step in TV Land’s evolution, and we are very proud to announce a second season,“ said Keith Cox, executive vp development and original programming at TV Land. "We’re thrilled to continue working with Darren, and really eager to see where he takes this story and our amazing cast next.”
Through its first four episodes, the series — co-starring Hilary Duff, Debi Mazar, Miriam Shor and Nico Tortorella — is averaging 452,000 total viewers on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. TV Land notes that Younger has been seen by more than 20 million viewers across multiple platforms, including Nick at Nite, Hulu and VOD, among others.
