'Transparent' Season 2 Trailer: 'That's a Tad Dramatic'

Like the song says, the Emmy-winning Amazon original series Transparent is a family affair, both on and off-screen. After all, creator Jill Soloway based the series on her own experience as the daughter of a “Papa” who became a “Moppa” after coming out as transgender. And the show she oversees is one of the most humorous and heartbreaking portraits of modern family life around. The characters who make up the Pfefferman clan might not always be likable, but they are consistently relatable.

Family is strongly emphasized in this new trailer for Transparent’s second season, premiering Dec. 11 on Amazon, which suggests some big changes are in store. While Maura — formerly Morton — (played by Jeffrey Tambor), contemplates gender reassignment surgery, his eldest daughter Sarah (Amy Landecker) seems on uncertain ground with her former husband, Len (Rob Huebel). Elsewhere, Josh (Jay Duplass) appears to have convinced Rabbi Raquel (Kathryn Hahn) that they can make their relationship work despite his promiscuous history, though the cracks in her optimism are starting to show. And then there’s unpredictable Ali (Gaby Hoffman), who once again promises to blaze her own trail.

Transparent premieres Dec. 11 on Amazon.
