Netflix has picked up worldwide streaming rights to the feature documentary Oriented, about three gay Palestinian best friends living in Tel Aviv in the lead-up to the 2014 Israel-Gaza conflict.
The global deal for the Conch Studios indie film directed by Jake Witzenfeld makes it available worldwide in 25 languages from Oct. 1 on Netflix.
The three main subjects in Oriented, Khader, Fadi and Naeem, struggle with their sexual and political identities as they advocate for gay rights in Israel.
The Netflix deal, announced Thursday at the Toronto Film Festival, follows the indie doc doing the rounds of the international festival circuit, starting with a world premiere at the Sheffield Doc Festival.
Indie distributor Pictured negotiated the streaming deal with Netflix.
