‘Today’ Only Briefly Mentions Billy Bush Suspension

Billy Bush, co-anchor of Today’s Take, the third hour of Today, has been suspended for his actions in the leaked video from 2005 in which Bush and Donald Trump can be heard demeaning and objectifying women. Although much of the conversation on Today centered around the video and the effect it could have on Trump’s campaign, there was only brief mention of Bush and his suspension. Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie first brought it up 15 minutes into the show after a panel had finished discussing Sunday night’s debate.

“Pending further review of the matter, NBC News has suspended Billy Bush, the host of Today’s third hour, for his role in the conversation with Donald Trump,” said Guthrie.

Bush has released a statement saying: “Obviously I’m embarrassed and ashamed. It’s no excuse, but this happened 11 years ago. I was younger, less mature, and acted foolishly in playing along. I’m very sorry.”

Co-anchors Tamron Hall and Al Roker opened the third hour of Today without Bush, again mentioning the suspension and again saying that it was pending further review, but also didn’t delve any deeper into the issue.

Roker opened by saying, “As you can see, Billy Bush will not be joining us today. As you’re probably aware, [he’s] part of that 2005 Access Hollywood taping with Donald Trump that’s been in the news all weekend.”

“NBC, which owns Access Hollywood, has suspended Billy for his role in that conversation,” Hall said.

There was no other talk of Bush’s suspension, how long it may be or what is meant by “pending further review.”
