Today Is A-Day! 'Pretty Little Liars' Peeps Preview Tonight’s Big Reveal

Today. Is. The. Day. Finally, after five seasons, we are going to know once and for all the identity of the elusive and conniving A on Pretty Little Liars. It’s a big deal. We’re kinda freaking out.

We started freaking out that much more last week when we touched base with executive producer I. Marlene King and actress Shay Mitchell (Emily Fields herself) at the Television Critics Association to share our excitement and Mitchell promised we’d be surprised even if we correctly predicted who A was all along.

“Some people might know who it is — maybe they would’ve known the whole time — but at the end of the day, you’re not going be able to guess how and why and all of that,” she teased. “The way that it unravels is so well done, so thought out. They’ve been planning this for a while so every single detail has gone into this reveal. So there’s no way — unless you’ve been in Marlene’s head this entire time — that you are going to know everything.”

King reiterated that point — that A’s identity is not that simple — every time she told another actor the game plan. “It was never just like, ‘This is A,’” she said. ’“It’s like, 'Let’s take an hour and I’m going to tell you who A is.’ It takes an hour to tell the story, which is what the finale is.”

If all teasers are to be believed, we will have answers to pretty much every question we’ve ever asked about the ladies of Rosewood, from who killed Toby’s mom to why A has been after the girls, come 9 p.m. tonight. And it’ll all wrap up with a tearful farewell (so, yeah, have the tissues ready). “There’s a very bittersweet goodbye, and the girls go their separate ways,” King shared, looking to the future and the next season. “They leave Rosewood, and they stay separated for five years, and an event happens that brings them back to town with new secrets and new lies.”

As much as these girls deserve a break from secrets and lies — no way five years is enough after all they’ve been through — we’re relieved to hear it. A new mystery means more PLL, after all.

The season finale of Pretty Little Liars airs Tuesday at 8 p.m. on ABC Family.
