‘Today’ Anchors Are ‘Weird’ And ‘Wonderful’ in Elton John Tribute Video

Elton John has partnered with YouTube for a contest that asks new filmmakers to create music videos for some of his most beloved hits that were released prior to the MTV era. And who better to interpret the golden oldie soul of Sir Elton John than the TODAY anchors!

Al Roker, Matt Lauer, Carson Daly and Tamron Hall all spent a lot of money on silly wigs and mustaches, so they can play pretend that they’re rock n’ roll roadies in a Baby Boomer fever dream. But things didn’t really take off until Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb showed up as Penny Lane and pal to demonstrate their best off-rhythm lip-synching.

If you think you can do a better job than the TODAY crew — a nearly impossible feat to say the least — you can celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Elton and Bernie Taupin’s songwriting career by making your own video for “Bennie and the Jets”, “Rocket Man”, or “Tiny Dancer” and uploading it to their site. Or, you can be like the rest of us who just want to bask in the beauty of Matt Lauer with hair…
