‘This Is Us’ Has a Heartfelt Prequel Episode
On Tuesday, This Is Us aired a special prequel episode that took place in flashback, centering on the day that led up to the pilot episode.
In a very preggers mood, Rebecca kicks Jack out of the house, forgetting that it’s his birthday. To make up for it, she tries to cook him a birthday cake but only ends up with a banana muffin with Twinkie frosting slathered on it.
We learn that the fireman who found Randall abandoned at the fire station nearly adopts Randall himself. The fireman hopes it’s a sign from God, but his wife quickly nixes the idea.
Dr. K., the character who helped bring Kate and Kevin into the world has his own storyline. It’s revealed that he has trouble letting go of his wife, who died. He uses that inspiration to convince Jack and Rebecca to adopt Randall.
The episode reaffirms a theme from the pilot: When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.
