'The Walking Dead' Season 5 Finale Questions: Who Will Live? Who Will Get Exiled? Where Is Morgan?!

image

With four major deaths already taking their toll on Rick Grimes’s group throughout Season 5 of The Walking Dead, will the gang’s population shrink even further in the season finale? And for those who do live… will they remain inside the (seemingly) safe haven of Alexandria, after Rick’s freak out on Alexandria doctor Pete and leader Deanna in last week’s penultimate Season 5 episode?

Those are but two of the questions patient TWD fans are itching to have answered in Sunday’s season wrap-up, the last new episode of the series we’ll see until the Season 6 premiere, likely next October. Other questions lingering in the enquiring minds of TV zombie junkies:

Morgan… Where Is He?

image

We saw him at the end of “No Sanctuary,” the Season 5 premiere, and again at the end of “Coda,” the midseason finale, and both times, he appeared to be on the trail of his good friend Rick. He’s remained MIA throughout the back half of the season, but there’s no way TWD powers-that-be will let the season end without at least another glimpse at Mr. Jones, right? And if he does manage to reunite with Rick, will he still be a friend… or might Morgan have become one of those humans other humans should fear?

Who’s Carving Those Ws Into Walkers, and Carving Walkers Into Pieces?

image

First, are we sure they’re Ws? Couldn’t they also be upside down Ms? As in Morgan? O.K., we don’t really believe Morgan is the culprit here. Most likely they are Ws, and very likely those Ws stand for “Wolves,” what could prove to be one of the most dangerous packs of survivors the Grimes gang has ever faced. Without getting too spoilery about the comics, the Wolves — who were referenced in spray paint on the walls of Shirewilt — could be a version of TWD comics baddies The Scavengers.

image

The Scavengers, after hearing the vehicles of those on a supply run in D.C., followed them back to Alexandria, and, well, trouble ensued. The AMC description of “Conquer,” the season finale, says, “Daryl experiences trouble on a run while Rick and his group continue to feel like outsiders in Alexandria, where trouble is creeping into the gates.” Could the Wolves not only be the alphabet carvers, but also the “trouble” Daryl, and Aaron, runs into?

Will Sasha Keep Her S—t Together Long Enough to Fend Off Those Walkers at the Walls?

image

The “trouble… creeping into the gates”? That could also be the Wolves, but it definitely applies to all those walkers who wandered through the woods and up to the gates of Alexandria, the ones Sasha was picking off at the end of “Try.” Sasha is in full vengeance, kill-all-the-walkers mode while she’s grieving Tyreese and Bob, and that could serve her friends and the Alexandrians particularly well if those packs of walkers turn into the big herd of walkers Abraham and his group saw when their fire truck broke down earlier in Season 5B. That’s assuming Sasha can continue to channel her PTSD into killing walkers, instead of experiencing a full-blown meltdown.

How’s Tara?

image

Rosita told Michonne in “Try” that Tara was recovering from the injuries she sustained during the warehouse run. But in a preview of “Conquer,” Carol is seen threatening (of course, because… Carol) Dr. Pete into examining Tara. Is that just a check-up, or did Tara’s condition somehow worsen?

We Still Have a Bad Feeling About Glenn… How Much Danger Is He In?

image

Aside from the usual amount everybody in the zombie apocalypse is in, we mean. We’re still worried about Glenn, and we outlined the reasons why just a couple of episodes ago. And we’re still haunted by star Andy Lincoln’s declaration that Glenn portrayer Steven Yeun is the “hero” of the second half of Season 5. Heroes do not always fare well in the apocalypse…

Speaking of Keeping S—t Together, Rick Didn’t… Will Deanna Toss Him Out of Alexandria?

image

The finale preview shows Deanna sparking a discussion about Rick, most likely about his future, and if he should have one, inside Alexandria. Let’s recall Rick’s state when last we saw him in “Try”… this is what he said to Deanna and the other townsfolk:

“You still don’t get it. None of you do. We know what needs to be done; we do it… you, you just sit and plan and hesitate… and wish things weren’t how they are. Well, you want to live? You want this place to stay standing? Your way of doing things is done! Things don’t get better because you want them to. Starting right now, we have to live in the real world. We have to control who lives here.”

And this is what Deanna, very pointedly, said to him (before Michonne knocked him out):

“That’s never been more clear to me than it is right now.”

And the question is not only whether or not Rick is allowed to stay inside the walls of Alexandria, but will the rest of his group be kicked out with him? And if they’re not forced to leave, will they choose to if Rick goes?

What Secret(s) Is Enid Keeping?

image

We’re convinced she has secrets. Like, maybe she’s connected to the people Deanna said she had to exile from Alexandria? Maybe those people are the Wolves? Maybe Enid’s stealth trips to the woods outside Alexandria are really about meeting up with those people, and sharing town supplies, or intel, with them?

Will Rick’s Fight With Pete End in Romance… or Death?

Even if you haven’t read the comics, it’s been clear since Jessie took those scissors to Rick’s locks that there was a little somethin’ somethin’ brewing between the two. Will Rick Grimes delve into a full-blown romance now that everyone knows creepy Dr. Pete is an abusive tool? Or will the Alexandrians, including Jessie, be so freaked out by Rick’s violence towards Pete, and his declaration that they’re too weak to defend themselves, put the kibosh on an apocalypse love affair before it has the chance to begin?

And what about Pete? Michonne may have knocked Rick out — at what cost to their friendship? — but when he wakes up, she’s not going to be the only one he’s ticked off at. He’s still going to have some feelings about Pete and how Pete should be dealt with, which probably means there’s another whuppin’, perhaps this one fatal, in the bad doctor’s future.

Now, share your feelings with the group, Dead-heads What are your predictions for the Season 5 finale?

The Walking Dead Season 5 finale airs Sunday, March 29 at 9 p.m. on AMC.
