'The Walking Dead' Newbies: Who's Who in Alexandria

Warning: Major TWD TV series spoilers and minor TWD comic book spoilers ahead.

Now that Rick and company have decided to make a go of life in Alexandria, it’s time to take stock of what we know so far about the people in Mr. Grimes’s neighborhood.

Deanna Monroe

image

Played by: Tovah Feldshuh
What we know: She’s a one-time Ohio congressperson who was steered towards Alexandria as a safe zone when she and her family were trying to get home after the zombie outbreak. She claims she’s so good at reading people that she was going to become a poker player if she wasn’t re-elected, and now she’s putting her leadership skills to good use as she tries to move Alexandria and its citizens forward towards a reboot of the old world, pre-apocalypse. Most importantly, she trusts that Rick and his friends and family are keys to making that happen.
Is she hiding anything? She’s the figurative architect of Alexandria, so she knows all the secrets that have happened along the way. Also, though she is refreshingly straightforward, the one thing she hasn’t gone into much detail about is the people she told Rick she had to eject from the town, and we’re guessing that’s a topic that’s going to factor into the storyline before Season 5 ends.
In the comics: There is no character named Deanna Monroe; in the comics, the leader of Alexandria is a man named Douglas Monroe.

Reg Monroe

image

Played by: Steve Coulter
What we know: Reg is the literal architect of Alexandria’s walls, as he and his sons (and later more townspeople as they arrived) took supplies from a nearby shopping mall construction site and erected the borders that keep Alexandrians safe. So far…
Is he hiding anything? He probably shares any secrets Deanna has.
In the comics: There is no character named Reg Monroe in the comics.

Aidan Monroe

image

Played by: Daniel Bonjour
What we know: He’s Deanna and Reg’s son, and he expects everyone to be as impressed with him as he is. That leads to a throwdown when he plays know-it-all while training Glenn, Tara, and Noah in the ways of supply runs, and Glenn has to deck him to take his ego down a notch. Deanna even thanks Glenn for punching him.
Is he hiding anything? Someone that sneaky has to have some secrets. Though, in his small defense, he does tell Glenn and the others that he knows he can be a douchebag, so perhaps there is something redeemable about him. (If nothing else, he’s self-aware.)
In the comics: There is no character named Aidan Monroe in the comic books.

Spencer Monroe

image

Played by: Austin Nichols
What we know: He’s in attendance at Deanna’s welcome party for Rick’s group, he tries to be friendly with Sasha (who rudely brushes him off), and, according to Deanna, he sometimes mans the watchtower in Alexandria.
Is he hiding anything? Maybe. We don’t know enough about him yet to determine whether or not he might be keeping secrets.
In the comics: Yes, Spencer Monroe is the son of Alexandria leader Douglas Monroe in the comics, and he shares the cockiness of TV character Aidan.

Olivia

image

Played by: Ann Mahoney
What we know: She’s the friendly operator of the Alexandria pantry.
Is she hiding anything? Besides the dwindling supply of chocolate bars in the pantry freezer? Probably not.
In the comics: She is a character in the comics, where she is in charge of the Alexandria weapons supply.

Enid

image

Played by: Katelyn Nacon
What we know: She’s a teen who hangs out with Mikey and Ron — and, as Ron tells Carl, until a few months ago, she was also out in the world, surviving among the roamers.
Is she hiding anything? Yes! Like why she’s sneaking off to the woods. And who she was waiting to meet up with out there, as it clearly looked like she was waiting for someone. Could she be tied to the people Deanna says she had to kick out of town? Or could she be a spy for other factions that may want to get inside Alexandria?
In the comics: There is no character named Enid in the comic books.

Aaron

image

Played by: Ross Marquand
What we know: He’s the one who scoped out and brought Rick and company to Alexandria, as the town’s official recruiter of new residents. He also bonds with Daryl, sussing out that Daryl, like him, feels like an outsider.
Is he hiding anything? He almost certainly is privy to further details of Deanna’s ultimate plans for Alexandria, as well as the details of why she had to expel a few residents, as she mentioned to Rick.
In the comics: Just like on the TV show, he is the first resident of Alexandria introduced in the comic books.

Eric

image

Played by: Jordan Woods-Robinson
What we know: He and his boyfriend Aaron share a house in Alexandria, and Aaron worries Eric isn’t properly skilled to handle recruiting duties, which is why Aaron recruits Daryl to become his fellow recruiter of new townsfolk.
Is he hiding anything? We don’t think so. He seems like a sweet, sincere guy.
In the comics: Yes, where he is also Aaron’s boyfriend and co-recruiter.

Jessie

image

Played by: Alexandra Breckenridge
What we know: She’s got a thang for Rick Grimes, and he’s got a thang for her, too. She met Rick when she brought him and others a basket of goodies from the pantry, and then she offered to cut Rick’s hair. Since then, their attraction to each other is obvious, and Rick even kissed her — on the cheek — at Deanna’s party.
Is she hiding anything? Uh-huh. Like maybe the reason she appears to be nervous when her husband Pete is around, and why there is a general sadness about her.
In the comics: Yes, she is, and she and Rick know each other in the comics, too.

Pete

image

Played by: Corey Brill
What we know: He’s Jessie’s husband, and a doctor who offers to examine Rick when he meets him at Deanna’s soiree. But he seems to have forgotten — or is pretending he forgot — meeting Rick previously when he was sitting alone at night on his porch and Rick walked by. He welcomed Rick to town, but it didn’t sound like a sincere welcome.
Is he hiding anything? He is so hiding something, and, if his comic book storyline is being mirrored, it’s a secret that negatively impacts his whole family.
In the comics: Yes, he is, and Rick is suspicious of him in the comics, just as he is on the series.

Ron

image

Played by: Austin Abrams
What we know: He hangs out with Mikey and Enid, and attends the makeshift Alexandria school that’s held in a garage in the afternoons.
Is he hiding anything? We’re guessing his whole family is hiding something…
In the comics: Yes, he is. Yes, he is.

Sam

image

Played by: Major Dodson
What we know: He’s Jessie and Pete’s youngest son, he likes cookies, and he’s the keeper of the red “A” stamp he likes to use to make people official Alexandrians.
Is he hiding anything? Oh yeah. Thanks to Carol’s threat about tying him up in the woods and leaving him to be eaten by zombies, he is hiding the fact that he caught her swiping guns from the pantry. But she creepily promised him loads of cookies in return, so he’s probably not too psychologically damaged by her menacing promise. We still are.
In the comics: No. In the comics, Ron is Jessie and Pete’s only child.

Tobin

image

Played by: Jason Douglas
What we know: He is tasked with helping to keep the fences around Alexandria secure, and he offers to teach Carol — who is pretending not to be a self-taught weapons expert — how to shoot a gun.
Is he hiding anything? Probably?
In the comics: He is an Alexandrian in the comics.

Nicholas

image

Played by: Michael Traynor
What we know: As an Alexandria gate guard, he’s the one who greeted Rick and company when they arrived. He also works with Aidan on supply runs, and has no problem with the tormenting of walkers Aidan enjoys.
Is he hiding anything? Almost certainly, like some of the shenanigans Aidan might have gotten himself up to?
In the comics: He is an Alexandrian in the comics, and butts heads with Rick.

Mikey

image

Played by: Elijah Marcano
What we know: He seems to be a normal teen (relatively speaking… apocalypse and all), hanging out with his fellow teens Ron and Enid, listening to music, and playing video games.
Is he hiding anything? Maybe. Ron mentioned Mikey’s dad — Nicholas — doesn’t like them using his pool table… perhaps he and his friends do things they’re told not to when the adults aren’t looking?
In the comics: He is an Alexandrian in the comics.

Erin

image

Played by: Tiffany Morgan
What we know: She and some of the other cardigan-favoring women of Alexandria seem to spend their days on such pre-apocalyptic activities as book club (even though they must share one copy of the books they read) and swapping gross recipes (keep reading).
Is she hiding anything? We trust her as much as you can trust anyone who tells you to mash up lima beans and cocoa powder and insists it will taste good. Bleeech.
In the comics: She is an Alexandrian in the comics.

Mrs. Neudermeyer

image

Played by: Susie Spear
What we know: She reallyreallyreallyreallyreallyreallyreallyreallyreally wants a pasta maker.
Is she hiding anything? Certainly not her desire for a pasta maker. “It’s just so much better when it’s fresh,” she tells a fellow partygoer at the Monroe house.
In the comics: She is a creation for the TV show.

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on AMC.
