'The Walking Dead': Josh McDermitt Breaks Down THAT Eugene Scene

Many a Walking Dead cast member has risked bumps and bruises and scuffed bones in the name of creating their art, but Josh McDermitt may be the first one to risk having his teeth ripped out of his mouth… all in the name of recreating a classic TWD comic book scene for McDermitt’s Eugene Porter.

In Sunday’s “Twice as Far,” with he and pals Abraham, Rosita, and Daryl in a tight spot with Dwight and a group of other men who seem to be aligned with the Saviors, Eugene decided to take a bite out of crime and chomp down on Dwight’s Little Dwight, in ordert to spark a chaotic scene that would allow gun-totin’ Abraham, Rosita, and Daryl to aim their weaponry at Dwight and his men.

And as simple as that whole scene may have seemed, creating it wasn’t. As McDermitt tells Yahoo TV in the video above, it involved Dwight portrayer Austin Amelio wearing a cup, a harness, and a rope, all of which combined to pose a potential threat to McDermitt’s teeth, and their continued existence inside his mouth.

“When I first met [Austin], I was like, ‘Hey, I’m Josh McDermitt, I’m gonna bite your crotch in a few days,’” says McDermitt, who also shares how he had been hoping since Season 4 that the show’s writers wouldn’t swap the storyline in for another character, and how Norman Reedus made sure the cast celebrated McDermitt’s very special episode with very special snacks… weenies, of course.

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on AMC.
