Kermit and Miss Piggy Are Back! Watch a Preview of ABC's 'The Muppets'

The Muppets took Comic-Con by storm a couple weeks back with a rowdy panel to introduce their new ABC comedy The Muppets, debuting this fall. Before that panel, the producers unveiled a ten-minute presentation reel… and now you can watch it, too!

Keep in mind: This isn’t actual footage from the new show; it’s just a presentation created to get the green light from ABC executives. But it was such a big hit at Comic-Con, ABC decided to let everyone see it, and it’s easy to see why: The Muppets’ signature all-ages humor and sharp pop-culture parodies are on full display here.

In the clip, Kermit tells the whole Muppet gang that ABC is making a new Muppets show, but Fozzie breaks the bad news to him: Miss Piggy is refusing to participate. She’s too busy filming a Civil War drama alongside Topher Grace — her new boyfriend, by the way. (“TMZ’s calling us ‘Tophiggy,’” she coos to Kermit.) And Kermit has moved on, too, dating a new pig named Denise: “What can I say, Gonzo? I’m attracted to pigs.”

The dialogue pokes fun at all the trendy amenities of modern life: Crossfit, Uber, Trader Joe’s. And just about every Muppet you remember is here, from the Swedish Chef making “Swedish sushi” to Statler and Waldorf gleefully trashing the Muppets in an ABC focus group. Will we be watching? We have to quote Janice here: “For sure!”

The Muppets premieres Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
