'The Good Wife' Cast Looks Back Ahead of the Series Finale

As the promos for Sunday’s series finale of CBS’s The Good Wife have been telling us, all good things must come to end. And when they do, it’s only natural to reflect on how far you’ve come.

The cast shares some of their lasting memories in the exclusive featurette above. Julianna Margulies explains why she loves that Alicia has finally let go in Season 7, largely in part to her new (and very popular) love interest played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. But she also says one of her favorite episodes of the series is “The Last Call,” the one right after the death of the even more popular Will Gardner, played by Josh Charles. (How devastating was that hour? We feel the need to warn you that there’s footage of the grieving here — and it’ll stick gut you.)

Margulies also points to the pilot as one of her favorites, of course. “I always say my ear still rings from that slap,” Chris Noth adds. He confirms that he’s now recognized more for the role of Peter Florrick than he is for Sex and the City’s Mr. Big.

Alan Cumming discusses shares his appreciation of Eli’s ability to be both tightly-wound and hold nothing back, while Christine Baranski explains why she’s enjoyed Diane’s attempt to make an all-female firm in the final season of the series, which she thinks will be remembered as one of TV’s greats for its subtlety and intelligence. “Well, we‘ve tried all the guys, and it’s just been one damn thing after another. So let’s try all women,” she says with a laugh.

Margulies has the best line, however: “First of all, Alicia Season 7 would tell Alicia Season 1 to quit the red wine and start the tequila — much quicker high.” She ends the featurette on a serious note, echoing the appreciation Cush Jumbo (Lucca) expresses for the show’s devoted fans: “Thank you so much for watching us and for enjoying it,” Margulies says, “and for being a huge part of the success.”

The Good Wife series finale airs Sunday, May 8 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
