‘The Goldbergs’ Sneak Peek: Adam and Barry Have a ‘Karate Kid’ Showdown

It’s time to sweep the leg (or is it the little leggy?) as The Goldbergs takes on one of the most iconic movies of the 1980s. Yes, after four seasons, the ABC comedy is finally rolling out the red carpet for a full episode devoted to The Karate Kid.

In this exclusive sneak peek at the upcoming Goldbergs episode, “The Kara-te Kid,” Adam (Sean Giambrone) and Barry (Troy Gentile) channel their inner Ralph Macchios for a karate showdown refereed by Coach Mellor (Bryan Callen).

But where’s Mr. Miyagi when you need him? Looks like mama Beverly Goldberg is “subbing” for the karate master, and she’s got the Icy Hot (and the mom-ified catchphrases) to prove it.

The Goldbergs previously paid tribute to ‘80s blockbusters like The Goonies, The Breakfast Club, and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, so it was only a matter of time before the 1984 Macchio/Morita masterpiece got its due. And diehard fans of the show know Barry Goldberg has always been a bit obsessed with The Karate Kid, as seen in the Season 1 episode, “Kara-te,” when he performed a martial arts routine in the school talent show. But this time, he’s waxing on … and off.

The Goldbergs episode “The Kara-te Kid” airs Wednesday, March 1, at 8 p.m. on ABC. Watch clips and full episodes of The Goldbergs for free on Yahoo View.
