The Buzziest Moments From the Grammy Awards

There were plenty of standout moments during the 59th Annual Grammy Awards Sunday night, and Beyoncé’s almost 10-minute-long performance will be remembered for years to come. Queen Bee was in full maternal mode during a performance that included spoken-word excerpts from her Lemonade album, images of her mother, Tina, and daughter, Blue Ivy, and a gravity-defying chair. Twitter, of course, erupted with opinions. Some people were impressed by that chair move; others were confused by Beyonce’s totally over-the-top spectacle; and others thought she came to slay.

Beyoncé’s performance was just one of many that stood out. Everyone knew Adele’s tribute to George Michael would be good, but not many thought it would literally be showstopping. In the middle of singing, Adele stopped and said, “I know it’s live TV, I’m sorry [audio dropped out]. I can’t do it again like last year. I’m sorry for swearing and I’m sorry for starting again. Can we please start it again? I’m sorry, I can’t mess this up for him. I’m sorry.”

Adele wasn’t the only one who had technical issues. When Metallica and Lady Gaga hit the stage together, it started out as an instrumental version of “Moth Into Flame.” But Lady Gaga proved to be good at sharing, as James Hetfield joined her on the one mic that worked. Once both microphones were working, Gaga got into total rocker chick mode and took a stage-dive into the crowd.

Later in the night, the show took a political turn, when A Tribe Called Quest hit the stage with Anderson .Paak and Busta Rhymes. Tribe also honored their fallen member, Phife Dog, who died almost a year ago. There were many tributes throughout the night. Best of all? When Bruno Mars had everyone partying like it was 1999 with his Prince-inspired performance of “Let’s Go Crazy.”
