'The Briefcase' Preview: Will the Bergin Family Decide to Pay it Forward?

Could you say no to $101,000? That’s the unenviable position faced by the Bergins, a North Carolina-based family featured on the series premiere of the new CBS reality show The Briefcase. Cash-strapped parents Joe and Kim are struggling to raise three daughters on the proceeds from their ice cream truck business, so when they receive a briefcase stuffed with money, their worries would seem to be over.

It goes without saying that there’s a catch: they’ve been paired with another deserving family who would also benefit from the cash and the Bergins have 72 hours to decide whether to keep the $101,000 or literally pay it forward. In this case, the recipients would be the Bronsons, a New Hampshire clan struggling to stay afloat after patriarch and Iraq War veteran Dave came back from his tour of duty with an amputated leg.

As you might expect, the choice of what to do with the briefcase weighs heavily on Joe over the course of the premiere. And in the above exclusive clip, you’ll see what he’s decided — and his wife’s priceless reaction.

The Briefcase premieres May 27 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
