The Best Moments of the SAG Awards

There were plenty of great moments at the SAG Awards Sunday night, and we narrowed them down to the best of the best. Lily Tomlin received the 53rd Life Achievement Award and said, “Did you hear the boomsday (sic) clock has been moved up to two and a half minutes before midnight. And this award, it came just in the nick of time.” Lily’s 9 to 5 co-star Dolly Parton introduced her, and couldn’t understand why Lily would want a SAG award, joking that she had spent most of her life trying to stop things from sagging.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus won the first award of the night, and during her acceptance speech, the Veep star showed why she deserved Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series. Julia started her speech with, “Whether the Russians did or did not hack the voting of tonight’s SAG Awards, I look out on the million, or probably even a million and a half, people in this room, and I say this award is legitimate and I won!”

Winona Ryder won the award for most expressive person standing next to someone giving an acceptance speech when Stranger Things won Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. David Harbour was giving a passionate speech regarding the current political climate and Winona looked confused, excited, surprised, confused again, and excited again — it was quite the emotional roller coaster.

Speaking of passionate speeches, Taraji P. Henson ended the night with an emotional speech when Hidden Figures won Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Taraji ended her speech by saying, “This story is about what happens when we put our differences aside and we come together as a human race — we win,” adding, “Thank you so much for appreciating these women. They are hidden figures no more. Thank you!”
