The Behind the Scenes Danger of ‘Dual Survival’

On Wednesday, Dual Survival aired an episode that showed a behind-the-scenes look at how they film the dangerous survival show. Dual Survival travels to remote locations with extreme conditions. One of those locations was the top of an active volcano, covered in snow with gusting winds. The situation was so cold that the crew’s cameras began to malfunction. The survival show quickly became a game of survival for the crew.

The crew recounted a time when an elephant appeared from the bush and began to charge them. As the 10,000 pound animal raced toward them, a ranger fired his rifle, scaring the animal off. Luckily the show employs local fixers and security.

It wasn’t all harrowing tales. The host, Grady Powell, admitted that on the long trips he began to miss his dog. So he named a furry boom microphone cover “Bailey” and called it his set dog.

Dual Survival airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on Discovery.
