“The Detour” is staying on track — and on the air. TBS has renewed Jason Jones and Samantha Bee’s sitcom for a third season.
The series has been a hit for Turner’s comedy network, and it currently ranks as cable’s most-watched comedy of 2017. It’s second among adults 18-49.
“I hear from so many people who love ‘The Detour,’ even my hardcore comedy friends,” said Thom Hinkle, senior vice president of original programming for TBS. “Season 2 has been so smart, hilarious and wrong. And from the early nuggets I’ve gotten from Jason and Sam, Season 3 is going to be even more effed up.”
“The Detour” centers on a family of four led by Nate (Jones) and his wife, Robin (Natalie Zea). At the opening of the second season, Nate pursues a promising job opportunity and moves the family to New York City for a fresh start. Everyone is excited except for Robin, who knows that a move to the big city means her mysterious past may catch up with her.
While Nate and Robin adjust to new jobs, new neighbors and old flames, Jared (Liam Carroll) and Delilah (Ashley Gerasimovich) dive headfirst into the awkwardness of adolescence. Despite questionable parenting and terrible decisions, the love the Parkers have for each other will keep the family intact as they endure another disastrous adventure.
In addition to Jones and Bee, “The Detour” is executive produced by Brennan Shroff and Tony Hernandez.
Season 2 concludes tonight on TBS, beginning at 10/9c.
