Taye Diggs to Guest Star on Fox’s ‘Rosewood’

Taye Diggs has signed onto a guest-starring role in “Rosewood,” Fox’s freshman medical drama starring Morris Chestnut.

The Broadway vet will have a multi-episode arc as Dr. Mike Boyce, a world-renowned infectious disease doctor based in Miami and the longtime best friend of Chestnut’s title character. While Mike is brought in to consult on a case, he catches the eye of Detective Villa (Jaina Lee Ortiz) — much to Rosewood’s surprise.

Diggs’ first episode is slated to appear in November, but potential of his casting had been teased as far back as the show’s Television Critics Association press day last summer.

“I went up to [series creator Todd Harthan’s] office the other day; he had Taye Diggs on speed dial,” Chestnut joked then about worrying he’d be recast by his “The Best Man” co-star, since Diggs has experience with the scripts’ medical jargon after “Private Practice” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Diggs is represented by ICM; Authentic Management; Franklin, Weinrib, Rudell & Vassallo, P.C.; and Burt Goldstein and Co.

“Rosewood,” which airs Wednesdays on Fox, is from Temple Hill in association with 20th Century Fox Television. In addition to Harthan, exec producers are Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen.

In other casting news:

Adrien Brody will cameo in an episode of Andrew Dice Clay’s Showtime comedy. The semi-autobiographical series has also added “Goodfellas” alums Lorraine Bracco as a Vegas overlord who owns Vice’s gambling debts and Kevin Corrigan as Milkshake, Dice’s best friend and right-hand man. The series is created by Scot Armstrong and is set to premiere in 2016.
