Tatiana Maslany’s surprise win for her portrayal of multiple clones in “Orphan Black” and HBO’s “Game of Thrones” trophy for best drama series marked the most-social moments from Sunday night’s 68th Primetime Emmy Awards.
Overall, over 9 million people had 14 million interactions on Facebook related to the 2016 Emmy Awards on Sunday. While more Facebook users joined the Emmys conversation this year (versus 6.9 million last year) volume of activity was about the same. Less than 0.01% of Facebook’s total global billion-plus user base engaged in Emmys chatter on Sunday.
This year’s Oscars drew more than twice the Facebook fan interaction than the 2016 Emmys. For the Academy Awards in February, 24 million users had 67 million interactions (posts, likes and comments) related to Oscars, up from 21 million users and 58 million interactions in 2015.
Maslany’s victory for best lead actress in a drama topped Facebook Emmys interactions, followed by “Game of Thrones” winning the drama series category for the second year in a row and capping a 12-statue haul overall this year. The No. 3 most-social Facebook moment was Sterling K. Brown’s win for supporting actor in a limited series or TV movie for his role as Christopher Darden in FX’s “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.”
On Twitter, Tatiana Maslany‘s win also was the No. 1 moment from the Emmys (and she was the most-discussed celeb). That was followed by Rami Malek (@ItsRamiMalek) landing the award for lead actor in a drama series for “Mr. Robot,” followed by “Game of Thrones” winning best drama, “Veep” winning best comedy and Sarah Paulson winning best actress in a limited series for “The People v. O.J. Simpson.”

Also under Facebook’s partnership with the TV Academy, the opening monologue of Emmys host Jimmy Kimmel was shot in 360-degree video from the orchestra pit and posted on the pages of Kimmel, ABC, and the Emmys/Television Academy. The 360 video has been viewed more than 460,000 times in the first 10 hours.
